Description Press cuttings: “Colchester By-Election (Vereker) 1895”. Containing reports of speeches, meetings etc. Prospective Conservative and Unionist candidate was Captain John Vereker, Mamie Cayzer's first husband. Much public support was given to Captain Vereker by his father-in-law, Charles Cayzer, then the Conservative and Unionist MP for Barrow-in Furness, and his mother-in-law, Agnes Cayzer, who substituted for his wife. (Mamie was unable to join her husband on the campaign, as she was about to have a baby. ). Cuttings include cartoons of events surrounding the election, and a newspaper reproduction of a photograph of Captain Vereker.
