Route Maps

The first Clan Line ships sailed to and from India, as this was a trade that the young Charles Cayzer knew well, since from the age of 17 he had spent more than a decade working for the British India Line, living at the Bombay (now Mumbai) end of the British India route.

However there were many other routes to be plied, and it did not take him long to open up opportunities elsewhere. This map shows some of the many routes taken by Clan and Union-Castle ships and many of the other shipping lines owned or managed by Cayzer Irvine.
